In the second semester I was selected by Hanban to be a volunteer to teach Chinese and Chinese culture at the Confucius Institute of Western Michigan University. I worked at Lake Center Elementary and my teaching targets were American elementary students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. In addition to regular Chinese language teaching, my lecture also contained stuff like the Geographical Feature of China, the Chinese Color Culture, the Zodiac Culture, the Minority Ethnic Groups in China, Chinese Food, the Cities in China, traditional Chinese Wedding Culture, Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Peking Opera, Chinese Knots, Paper-cutting, Traditional Chinese Scarf-dancing and Tai Chi.I took charge of the design and rehearsal of the Chinese Open House performance at Lake center Elementary, which got a very good respond among teachers and parents.I also participated in Chinese cultural promotion activities such as Bronco Bash, Multi Culture Festival and so forth promoting Chinese culture.
