Port Captain
-
Jul 2013 - May 2015
I make stowage plans, taking into account the safety and stability of the loads. I assign berthing arrangements and sailing schedules of vessels. I reduce oil attrition, saving the company money; the lower speed a vessel approaches its next destination the more money is saved in fuel costs. I train new crew members in safety protocols, load stability, and stowage space control. I search media websites for marine accident reports, compile the pertinent information and provide guidance to prevent the fleet from experiencing similar disasters. Third Officer
-
Mar 2012 - May 2013
As Third Officer I had to safely navigate at sea and took full responsibility for the crews’ life during my duty shift. I was in charge of safety and all lifesaving equipment on board the ship. I maintained the safety equipment in accordance with SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) regulations. I completed all kinds of the vessel’s certificates (Nationality Certificate, Certificate of Registry, International Tonnage Certificate, etc.) and provided documents at each port for customs and the coast guards. I assisted the Captain in maintaining ship stability by adjusting ballast water during loading and discharging operations. Finally, I trained student interns and reported their learning proficiency to company headquarters. Show less
