Project Title: Multiple Access Schemes for 5G Networks and Beyond The objective of this project is to jointly investigate the energy and spectral efficiency aspects of cellular communication systems for future cellular networks including 5G and beyond. In particular, we aim to harness multiple access technologies for a sustainable future while reducing energy consumption and hence the carbon footprint of the digital world in order to combat climate change. Tasks and contributions: 1 - Investigation of wireless communication technologies: Non Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA), Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), and Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) to meet the energy efficiency requirements of 5G and future cellular network. 2 - Modeling and Mathematical Formulation of a multi-antenna NOMA and SDMA communication system taking into account the wireless channel uncertainties. 3 - Analytical solution derivation for the power consumption minimization problem subject to Quality of service (QoS) constraints for MISO NOMA and SDMA downlink communication system. 4 - Proposal of a new beamforming scheme (Combination of NOMA and SDMA) to minimize the power consumption. 5 - Proposal of a joint beamforming and user pairing scheme to achieve better energy efficiency. 6 - Simulation and Evaluation (MatLab) of the proposed system in various scenarios in terms of power consumption. 7 - Validate, Assess and Compare the proposed scheme through theoretical and numerical analysis. 8 - Rigorous technical report writing and documentation associated with the project. Valorization: 2 Publications: 1 - Cooperative Multicell Downlink Joint Coordinated Switched Beamforming and User Pairing, 4th GPECOM Conference, 2022, doi: 10.1109/GPECOM55404.2022.9815672. 2 - Near Optimal Joint Switched Beamforming and User Pairing for MISO Communication System, 29th IWSSIP Conference, 2022, doi: 10.1109/IWSSIP55020.2022.9854429. Project Title: IoT Jamming Attack The focus of our project is on the security of Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN). We are interested in investigating the Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) protocol in order to exploit the vulnerabilities of this technology. We then examine the jamming attack on LoRaWAN and implement it in this type of network. Finally, we propose solutions to protect the network against this type of attack. Tasks and Contributions: 1 - Investigation of Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) connectivity technology : Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN). 2 - Implementation of an end-to-end LoRaWAN network using two types of hardware (Dragino LoRa Shield and Semtech LoRaMote). 3 - Investigation, Implementation and Performance evaluation of Jamming attack in LoRaWAN Network, which is a physical layer attack that consists in transmitting a powerful radio signal in the proximity of the devices to disrupt the radio transmissions. 4 - Proposal of several mechanisms to mitigate the Jamming attack or reduce its impact.
