Simon’s contributions as a mentor in the Faculty of Business and Economics Career Mentoring Program at the University of Melbourne have been highly appreciated. The aim of this Faculty based program is to assist current undergraduate and graduate business students with their career development and to engage business professionals in a mutually beneficial partnership. As a valuable member of our mentoring community we hope to see Simon participating in the program again next year. Many thanks again for your time and commitment to our mentoring program in 2018.

Simon worked for me as a maintenance manager, taking on a significantly under performing plant that lacked maintenance structure, resources and strategy. He demonstrated a high level of maintenance understanding, developed strategies communicated very well gaining my buy-in and then set about implementing the improvement strategies, setting kpi’s to measure the progress. Having kept in contact with Simon since, I know he has developed and refined his understanding, knowledge and methodologies all of which have given Simon a solid education and significant operational experience in determining and implementing appropriate maintenance improvement strategies.

I have known Simon for over 10 years. We first met when he joined my management team at Goodman Fielder Baking Division, Clayton Victoria as Equipment Maintenance and Reliability Manager. This large manufacturing facility produced over 200,000 loaves of bread per day, 7 days/week and 365 days/year. In this highly demanding supply environment the manufacturing equipment reliability was one of the key prerequisites to achieving min 98.5% delivery in full and in time to most of the major retail outlets across Victoria. In the period of us working together, Simon developed and implemented number of innovative approaches towards improving plant equipment reliability, which culminated in a greatly enhanced equipment up-time %. Some of the examples include a comprehensive Equipment Preventative Maintenance Program, selection and appointment of very effective maintenance team, critical spare-parts replacement system and control of maintenance budget. I highly value and recommend Simon for his excellent technical skills in the area of Equipment Reliability Improvement but also for his good grasp of understanding and balancing demands of broader business needs and outstanding communication skills.

I founded Factory In Your Pocket because I saw too many manufacturing businesses struggling to make the profits they wanted while at the same time being unable to identify and eliminate huge amounts of waste in manufacturing process. While working with these businesses to improve their processes it became apparent that there were only really two types of manufacturing software solutions available to them. Firstly is the whole of business package encompassing everything from shop floor SCADA to back office ERP, generally these systems come with a huge price tag and many months if not years of integration headaches. Secondly was a myriad of apps and individual programs that either do not work together or require complicated integration, resulting is extra work to compile information back into one spreadsheet or report. From this was born the FiYP vision and initial set of products with the ultimate goal to provide manufacturing businesses with a paperless, simple and cost effective platform on which to run their entire business. See our website to learn how our 5 step process will increase your profits. Show less
