I had always been interested in approaching biological problems from a physical science’s perspective. After finishing Physics I and II courses, I received the HHMI research fellowship and spent a year at the physics department doing computational biophysics research under the guidance of Dr.Kwan Kelvin Cheng. We used molecular dynamics simulations to explore the initial binding events between beta-amyloid(Aβ) peptides and neuronal membrane involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's Disease. I used GROMACS and VMD to design computational models and ran multi-scale molecular dynamics simulations. I also presented posters at the American Physical Society Joint Fall 2013 Meeting of the Texas Sections in Brownsville, Texas and at Society for Neuroscience 2013 conference in San Diego, California.
