      • My main focus is studying a biosynthetic gene cluster found in marine sponge bacteria that encodes a hybrid "assembly line" of non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) and polyketide synthase (PKS), and accessory enzymes, such as tailoring proteins, transporters, etc. • I’m also working on PKS engineering in Streptomyces in collaboration with the Burkart lab at UCSD. The overall goal is to produce structural analogs via using biosynthesis as an alternative to complicated total synthesis. • I'm occasionally mentoring rotation students, summer undergraduates, and newly joined graduates. I enjoy sharing my experiences with others to help them perform experiments rigorously and efficiently. Meanwhile, I could be the mentee to learn from their perspectives for filling my knowledge gaps. Show less
