Evaluate children with limited functional verbal communication, identify optimal Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems, write reports to acquire the communication systems via insurance or schools, provide initial training and ongoing coaching to the communication partners, and work with the children to use AAC to access social interaction and academic learning at public schools Collaborate with school staff to identify and create effective visual support, routines, and structures for children with Autism so they gradually develop functional communication skills and make connections with people around them Co-teach with the preschool classroom teacher and para-educators to provide a language-rich environment to 3-5-year-old children, facilitate peer-to-peer interactions, and cultivate an understanding and acceptance of differences Provide speech and language therapy to children at public schools. Students range from 3 to 21 years old. Treat a variety of communication disorders. Use multiple research-based tools such as Story Champs, EET (Expanding Expressive ToolKit), STAR (Strategies for Teaching Based on Autism Research), and the TEACCH program. Use a variety of service delivery models including traditional pull-out therapy, 5-minute speech therapy, co-teaching, peer-to-peer, consultation, and often combinations of the above Evaluate students' communication skills and needs using the RIOT process (review files, interview team members, observation, and testing using a combination of dynamic assessments, functional communication assessments, and standardized tests).
