• Research Assistant for Prof. Mushfiq Mobarak at Y-RISE • Imported raster-based dataset and calculated the agriculture actual and potential yield in Nepal with respect to difference in the price of fertilizers for each districts using QGIS • Matched the previous VDC level (village development committee) with the correspond current lowest administrative divisions – wards in Nepal • Wrote code to utilize existing lists of government-registered fertilizer retailers in Nepal and scrape the addresses and contact information of private-sector agricultural shops in Nepal found on google maps • Merged the list of registered fertilizer dealers in Nepal with ward (smallest level of political geography) maps to obtain granular location data on all dealers • Performed analysis on the determinants of the locations of subsidized fertilizer dealers and the relationship between fertilizer dealer density and socioeconomic and geographic variables such as agricultural suitability • Found a causal impact of district-level fertilizer policies on dealer location via searching for discontinuities in dealer density at district boundaries Show less
