I have always been passionate about helping those around me and particularly with psychological distresses. As an undergraduate student, I am not licensed to provide proper health care; however, working at the Peer Support Center has allowed me to assume the responsibilities and experience the setting of a licensed therapist and has subsequently allowed me to solidify my passion towards helping others struggling with their mental health.Through my ongoing experiences at the center, I have found that I am particularly skilled at connecting with the students scheduling sessions with me and adapting my conversation style to suit their individual needs, issues and personalities. My greatest achievement at the center is having a particular student return for several appointments and watching his mental health improve with every passing week. Knowing that I was capable of positively affecting, however slightly, his mental health, without any professional training, has motivated me to continue pursuing a career in this domain.

I interned at AFLEC as a substitute English teacher for Pre-k students. Although my time at AFLEC was short, I greatly benefitted from the work I did with my students. Working in an educational setting allowed me to develop my ability to adapt to the needs of the students with the material I had to teach them and to find different ways to hold their attention enough to relay my message across effectively. I was driven to find unique and creative ways to relay the information while still finding ways to achieve the goals set for each session.
