Art Mediator

May 2019 - Oct 2020
See you in Iran is a cultural platform for travelers to connect with locals through experience and information sharing. This platform originally sought to counter Iranophobia through presenting people’s unfiltered narratives about traveling to Iran where they stay at the See You in Iran hostel. I have been working at See You in Iran Cultural Platform for the last six months as an Art and Cultural Mediator until the present time. I think one of the ways in which we can improve a foreigners’ misconception of Iran, is the contemporary art scene. I set up the new idea of gallery hopping tour for the first time, based on my experience working at Kooshk residency and Rybon Art center accompanying international artists/tourists to discover the Iranian Art scene. Every Friday, a number of art exhibition openings take place across Tehran. On this day, artists, art critics, and art admirers converge in the artistic center of Tehran to visit and celebrate art throughout the day with new gallery exhibitions. I also organize studio visits and discussions with foreigners to improve their vision of Iranian art. Following that interest and concern, I had a talk on the “Impacts of Orientalism on Middle eastern and Iranian contemporary Art” in October 2019-a part of “alaj Curatorial Projects” in collaboration with See You in Iran Cultural House, where I discussed questions such as: How would an Iranian Artist summarize the Middle Eastern/Iranian culture into an image? I continued the discussion on the hegemony that lies within the art world and how it cues artists to reflect on issues that the Middle East has been dealing with for decades. Working at such a place, helps me to expand my network of friends and acquaintances and review any concerns and ideas on the arts and culture of the middle east through exchange and creative response with travelers from all over the world. Sep 2018 - Feb 2019
Kooshk residency is a space for arts and culture in Tehran. Kooshk provides a convenient space for artists, curators, researchers, writers, and filmmakers to encourage inter-cultural dialogue and art creation. I collaborated with Kooshk Residency as the program coordinator where I was responsible to help the international artists during their one-month long stay in Iran in terms of organizing two events per month-one Artist presentation and one Studio visit(exhibition opening). In addition to that responsibility, I was in charge of the translation for the events, and assistance needed for the artwork production process during one month for each artist. Show less

“ilaj Curatorial Projects” with an interdisciplinary approach, focuses on eastern myths, rituals, theology and literature and how they can influence our way of thinking about life and our experience in the Middle East throughout history. “ilâj” exhibition was developed during the 2nd Curatorial Intensive South Asia (CISA) fellowship program conducted by Goethe-Institut in collaboration with Khoj International Artists’ Association in Delhi, June 2018. Three Artists engaged with local and international issues like consumerism, petrification and violence inspired by Persian literature and the mysticism in the eastern culture. The show was exhibited on December 2018 at Khoj Artists’ Association in Delhi, India. The title of the project is a word common in Farsi, Arabic, Urdu, and Hindi, meaning “cure” and “treatment.” The East has been struggling with lots of issues for a long time; yet, it is a great muse of any remedy resulting in serenity. Iran, as one of the oldest and most fruitful parts of this region and culture, serves truth-seekers with an array of stories where they can dig for more knowledge: the cure. Reading myths and knowing more about ancient scripts and practicing rituals is a form of returning to roots as a form of knowing oneself. I am currently working on the second part of this project as "Suward-Once upon a time; Middle Earth". It focuses on remains of Iran, in terms of history, linguistics, rituals, climatic; and observes the remains of Iran, and takes a step towards the mystic and geographic East-the great Khorasan. This observation is achieved by a one-month long expedition to Khorasan Province located in the Eastern part of Iran. Through a collaboration between different disciplines-literature, music, documentary film making, visual arts, architecture and humanities, scholars seek a cultural extension via a cultural exchange. Mar 2016 - Jun 2018
Hepta Gallery was an art space for exhibiting the contemporary art of Iran that was established in 2013 in Tehran. I started working at the gallery in March 2017. I was in charge of the website of the gallery where I had to update all the content related to the past, current and upcoming events/exhibitions in addition to producing content on Iranian modern artists and art history. I also assisted the Gallery director curating shows on a regular basis (every two weeks with a new exhibition). As the program coordinator, I was in charge of invitations, emails, providing collectors the artworks’ certificate and sending out the artworks purchased. I also organized two international shows (one exhibition and one workshop) during my work there by inviting a Norwegian and a Bangladeshi Artist. The Affirmative Art Workshop was a 2-day workshop led by Eirik Jarl Trondsen and Co-facilitated by me accompanying a one-week Solo painting exhibition from the same artist in late January 2018. Affirmative art was a collaborative art-experience to identify what one wants in life and build a community of support to Empower their Dreams using a visual language of colors, shapes, and illustrations. Eirik Jarl Trondsen started this collective in Africa in 2012. Earlier on January 2018, the Solo Painting Exhibition-“Reality is Artificial-Artificial is Reality”, by the Bangladeshi Artist-Hasan Morshed, was being held at the Gallery. Working at Hepta Gallery, helped me in shaping the criteria I wanted to achieve during the years of working in the art field. Show less

Assistant Art Director/Volunteer

Sep 2012 - Oct 2014
Rybon Art center is an international, independent and artist-led institute based in Tehran. Rybon has initiated and conducted numerous projects including art residencies, local and international artist workshops, artist talks, screenings, enhancing local art networks and facilitating international art exchanges. I joined the Rybon Art center as a volunteer for the first international Artists workshop on October 2012-a 10-day long residency. I assisted in facilitating the artists with any help needed for their art production. During the time of the Workshop, a documentary movie was made and I was the Director’s Assistant where I had to do the interviews, translation, and photography. I had the same responsibility for two other similar events, the Iran-China Exchange program on September 2013 in Tehran and a Residency Program with Pierre Laurent from France on July 2014. Meanwhile I was working part-time (24 hours per week) at Rybon Art Centre assisting the administrator with organizing artists’ sessions and events, research, fundraising, Translation, and website content update, in addition to full-time assistance during the time of every workshop. Working at such platform helped me a lot with expanding the local and international circle of colleagues and artists which was beneficial to my future career. Show less
