Project Manager - Long-Term Operation (LTO) Doel 1/2

On December 2014, the new Belgian government (following a government change) decides to stop the dismantling and decommissioning of Doel 1&2 nuclear power units and instead takes the decision (together with ENGIE) to begin necessary studies and works in order to extend the operational life of both units by 10 years, Project Long-Term Operations (LTO). Being among the first members of the LTO project management team, I took part in defining, structuring and drafting the program.

Project Manager - Dismantling & Decommissioning of nuclear power plants

On July 2012 Belgian government takes the decision to shut down, dismantle and decommission 2 out of its 7 nuclear power plant reactors (Doel 1&2). Joining the project management team leading this challenge I was responsible for putting in place and carrying out multiple “first of a kind” engineering dismantling studies. One notable mention is the study of extraction and dismantling of the main reactor pressure vessels (vessel containing the nuclear core) of Doel 1&2 units. In addition to technical feasibility projects I was also leading projects linked to the overall cost estimations of the entire decommissioning and dismantling program. Show less

Following the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, Spanish government was under pressure over closing Santa María de Garoña nuclear reactor as it was of similar design (BWR Mark I) as several reactors of Fukushima Daiichi power plant. Joining the department of Modeling and Simulation, I worked on designing (mathematically and numerically) simulations of hydrogen explosion events inside the containment building and analyzing their impact on structural integrity of the reactor.
