Ms Lee was introduced to me in the fall, 2008; I was assigned to Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST) to teach a Human Resources Management course, and Jane was assigned to one section of the course. I met several capable, bright students at TUST. Jane is among the brightest and most capable. From the first day I met her, she informed me that she planned to study overseas, specifically, in the UK. She was knowledgeable (already, at that time) about financial matters, particularly fund management. She was ambitious, in fact, she took every "extra credit" opportunity I offered; she finished the course with 12 bonus (max) points that were discarded, but she "enjoyed learning more". However, what struck me greatest, was Jane's understanding of cultural diversity and how managing for diversity could increase an organization's long-term success. She had excellent recommendations for reducing sexual harassment in the Chinese workplace. Finally, when I assigned the classic case study, "When Salaries Aren't Secret" she and her team developed one of the most innovative solutions that any group of students presented to me. Whatever she does, wherever she goes, Jane will be a resounding success. Any organization will be positively impacted!
