I had the pleasure of working with YanYan in a collaboration between GIPHY and her NYU engineering program. We built a content moderation tool from scratch using React, Typescript, and Supabase. YanYan displayed a tremendous aptitude for learning new tools and frameworks, and I could count on her to write excellent code and review that of her peers. What particularly stood out to me about YanYan, was that she always asked a lot of questions. She made sure she understood the task at hand and how best to complete it. If she was stuck on a particular problem, she never hesitated to reach out for help. This proactive communication not only helped her learn faster and deliver higher quality work, but oftentimes led to wider discussions about design and implementation that ultimately benefited the final product. I would jump at the chance to work with YanYan again, and I'm certain that she will prove herself an invaluable member of any team.

Yanyan was an intern at Giphy via the prestigious NYU ITP program which links final year Masters Business/ Tech students with established companies to give them industry exposure. Moderation is a critical task at Giphy which makes sure that we expose only those gifs to the public that are deemed safe based on our content policy rules. Hundreds of thousands of gifs are uploaded and moderated each day by our agents and any slip can lead to unwanted exposure of unsafe content. Yanyan was with us for 14 weeks where worked towards creating a new and more intuitive Moderation UI for the moderators at Giphy. I directly managed her at her time at Giphy. Her responsibilities included coding the app using technologies like React, Typescript, Supabase (for backend), Vercel (for deployment), plus interviewing the moderators for feature requests. Besides being an excellent coder, Yanyan has an exceptional eye for product and design. I was amazed by how quickly she picked up typescript and within a few weeks was churning out top quality code and PR's. As stated above, her acumen was not limited to her great coding skills and software practices but also making significant contributions to new feature ideas (like using hotkeys for moderation) which the team ended implementing and was received with a lot of enthusiasm by our product and moderation team. She worked tirelessly her entire time with us often spending late nights to meet deadlines. This showed me how much she cared about the product. This becomes even more impressive when you take into account the fact that this entire time she was also a full time student at NYU. Lastly I would like to say that Yanyan is a natural leader and I saw her as that. She coordinated almost all the things from NYU side, was their representative in many discussions and helped her teammates out whenever they were in need. This is a great trait which will help her in her future endeavors. I can't recommend Yanyan enough. She will be a great asset to any team or company she joins and will doo great things in the future.
