Tukamulane Cooperative

  Tukamulane cooperative is a membership-based producer organization of small holder farmers located in namwera, Mangochi district. The core business of the cooperative is to provide technical and management services that support production and marketing of soy bean and other legumes by its members. The cooperative received a capacity building grant from the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) which I was managing in coordination with the board and management team. My role at Tukamulane involved the following among other things; >Coordinating with partner organization (UMODZI) and consultancy organizations to provide Trainings such as, governance and finance management, crop purchase training, Farmers training to increase Cooperative capacity. >Developing and maintaining strong links within the Cooperative area of operation through a strong network communication system between Cooperative Office, action groups and clubs as well as other stakeholders. >Assisting Cooperative leaders in the planning and implementation of all Cooperative activities. Including coordinating field visits, planning field days, and quarterly programs, overseeing procurement committee meetings and coordinating marketing activities for the cooperative. >Documenting reports on all activities the cooperative is undertaking and submitting to the partner on a quarterly basis and the board for review and way forward on a monthly basis. >Encouraging farmers who are cooperative members to adopt and implement better farming practices through exposure to new knowledge, information, skills, inputs and process to improve quality of produce and business. Advised the board and cooperative members on best finance management practices in accordance to the national laws and also USADF laws. >Oversaw the implementation and monitoring of all programs activities at the Cooperative including operational and commercial activities.
