Latvian National archive is Latvian state institution, which have about 500 employees in different regions. This institution is dealing with analog and digital information all over the country; complex software and IT infrastructure solution is necessary in order to manage all respective processes. ROLE: My primary responsibility was to oversee the streamlined operation of the IT department and to ensure IT equals with business objectives of the organization. Main goals were to develop and manage application portfolios for IT department. In addition, I strategized, planed, coordinated, directed, and designed all operational activities of the IT department, as well as provided direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. I worked closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the institution. Project1: Managed IT department and development using agile/scrum methodology in team of 8 people to create a single national archives’ information system to ensure state archive of information resources are available on-line and service supply with integrated, customer needs and life situations dependent, as well as storage and maintenance of state and local government documents and electronic data. Datafix is WEB and application development company it was easy to implement Agile/Scrum in it. Learning and getting know the scrum methodology I realized that is fundamentally a very simple way of managing software development more effectively. At the beginning it was a risk to adopting agile processes because it was something new and unknown. Developer team still developed their applications using the traditional waterfall model, but after I explained Scrum workflow we understand that the worst thing that can happen is our project schedule fail. At first we tried the scrum methodology in some risk-free projects, adapted working environment and planed some new projects in advance, people get used to it and we decide to keep doing this. When our team (PO/SM, Developer, Designer, Tester) finished first scrum project I made prioritized impediment list to improve Scrum and with every next project Scrum became better and better. .
