      I worked as a software engineer intern at ByteDance's Privacy and Data Protection Office. Tech stack: backend with Go, hertz, thrift and GORM with MySql for database; frontend with React. In Privacy Whitepaper project, I refactored classification pipeline to allow user define and specify mapping methods in RoPA generation, and rewrote data merging and classification functionalities from Python to Go, with around 4x speedup. I maintained Gatekeeper (a project for A/B testing and access control) during reorg to support decision making, where I produced a detailed technical design document and refactored the code base. Also, I led a team of four to develop a dataframe package in Go with pandas functionalities and pandas-like API, with a focus on reducing RAM usage for dataframes and operations at scale. At last, I documented current research advances in data privacy and delivered a presentation on differential privacy to engineers in the department to promote awareness of data privacy research.       Under RIPS 2021 held by Institute for Mathematical Sciences, I, as the project coordinator for a research team sponsored by Google, worked closely with people from Google AI, to do a research project on private deep learning in a dual-party financial system environment. As a researcher, I proposed, proved the correctness of, implemented (with TensorFlow) and experimented a vertical federated learning algorithm solving classification problems on vertically partitioned datasets by updating the gradients locally. As the project coordinator, I was also responsible for project management, including scheduling, assigning tasks and coordinating with the Institute and Google. Show less
