      Chemical synthesis of small molecules with varying functional groups on a central scaffold that had shown inhibitory activity against a target enzyme. The goal was to improve the potency of the small molecule, while searching for desirable drug-like properties such as solubility, permeability and metabolic stability. By the end of the internship, I had made about ten such molecules, with some of them demonstrating IC50 (inhibitory concentration) in the nano-molar range.
