8-week paid research internship in Computer Vision and Computational Photography. Supervised by Dr Rafał Mantiuk (Senior Lecturer and Reader in Graphics and Displays). - Main project: multi-view stereopsis for depth estimation with applications to 3D rendering on a novel hyper-realistic display (stereo, HDR, multi-focal plane) and view interpolation. - Side project: automated tracking of micromovements of the eye to dynamically calibrate the display in real time. - Researched, implemented and tested different stereo matching and structure-from-motion algorithms. - Adapted the code to allow it to handle HDR images. - Determined the best parameters for processing image sets captured by our automated camera gantry. - Experimented with combinations of various filtering techniques (bilateral, Gaussian, median) to post-process the produced depth maps, reducing noise and filling in unknown regions. - Used the RANSAC algorithm to fit analytic geometric models of primitive 3D shapes to noisy point clouds. - Volunteered to advise prospective applicants and demonstrate projects at the Computer Laboratory open days. - Participated in the Machine Learning reading group, focusing on Reinforcement Learning for Automated Theorem Proving.
