  Master Thesis and Practicum project, with several defined steps pointing to the final goal of understanding when and how microglia began to be a functional component of those species that possess them. Firstly, we selected a rather conservative set of microglia-specific genes with regard to other brain cells and macrophages, via analyses publicly available scRNA-seq datasets of human and mouse samples. Next, we associated such genes with microglia stages of development and physiological states, also through analysis of scRNA-seq datasets. Lastly, we related their appearance in the evolutionary context with the help of previously done phylsotratigraphic analyses. Show less
