Walt's knowledge and experience, hands down, was one of the most extensive of anyone I worked with in the Nextera Energy Resources SCADA team. His knowledge of telecom, both wired and wireless networking, coupled with his knowledge of SCADA made him the swiss army knife of his department. Planned and managed SCADA Team projects and budget. Coordinated substation automation projects included PI and archive server upgrades, remote breaker Trip\Close functionality, substation HMI modifications. Planned and coordinated implementation of AGC (Automatic Generation Control) at 5 wind power facilities required by Grid Operators and to meet regulatory requirements, resulting in power plant generation output being controlled by a set point providing greater control of power being fed into power transmission grid. Planned and coordinated upgrade of 14 PI and Archive servers due to hardware age and no longer being supported by manufacturer. The critical PI and archive servers are now covered by the manufacturer support. Created and managed the SCADA Team project plan that would provide the team with a schedule for completion of upgrades and ad-hoc projects that arose due to business unit strategy changes. This resulted in being able to provide stake holders with a realistic time table for work completion. Created and managed the SCADA Team project budget that would provide management with cost estimate for completion of upgrades and ad-hoc projects based on the SCADA Team project plan. This resulted in upper management being able to include SCADA work cost in the overall business unit budget. Show less
