YKIP is a foundation committed to improving the lives of the needy in Bali by breaking the cycle of poverty through educational support and services. Originally set up to assist in the recovery efforts after the Bali bombing in October 2002, YKIP was the natural outcome of the work carried out by Mitrais and the Bali Recovery Group during the immediate aftermath of the bombing. The Mitrais management and a group of concerned citizens were amongst the founders of YKIP. They wanted to ensure that assistance to victims would continue long after the aid agencies pulled out. All of YKIP’s projects in 2002 and 2003 were dedicated to providing educational assistance to the children of Bali bombing survivors and families of those who lost their lives, known as the KIDS Scholarship Program. Commencing in 2004, YKIP expanded its program by adding educational assistance program to support children from disadvantaged families in Bali, a program called the KEMBALI Scholarship Program which provides scholarship to elementary and high school students.
