I am currently working as a basic healthcare assistant in surgical ward and helping the patients and nurses there. My working experiment makes me more proficient in basic nursing skills. I am taking care of not only patients’ physical health but also their mental health. I am currently working as a basic healthcare assistant in surgical ward and helping the patients and nurses there. As this clinical attachment is in a special ward, I have encountered different patients and I have learned from staff how to handle them according to their mental illnesses. I also learn how to do the mental health assessment in detail, different types of restraints, and their alternative uses. In addition, the common medications in mental healthcare settings are also learned as well as their side effects, and nursing considerations. Last but not least, we have observed how to prepare the patient before going for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and how to take care of them and monitor after the procedure. Show less

During my 2weeks posting at the Gynaecology ward, I have observed a lot of special skills which are different from the general ward such as abortion procedures, Vaginal drug administration, different types and stages of women's health diseases, and how they were treated with different methods according to their medical history. Most importantly, I practiced my first IM injection during this attachment. In addition, documentation becomes one of my proficient skills after the clinical attachment as I was doing Hospital administration, Discharge plans, patient round assessment, and strict I/O charts. I just started my second clinical attachment at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. I applied my school learnings in the clinical section such as serving and assisting in medication administration, identifying different types of medications and their specific usages for each patient, applying and interpreting the ECG, infection control, etc., - In my first clinical week, I performed my very 1st experience of suture removal for an amputee patient. During my 2nd clinical attachment, I have done so many wound dressings. I have learned how it is important to know the rationale of every treatment order, and which blood tests are required for what kind of patient condition. Show less

I got my very 1st clinical internship in COVID Treatment Facility. I have practiced all of my year 1 nursing skills within my attachment well. I learned how cleaning and disinfection are essential not only for healthcare workers but also for everyone. As a student nurse, I improve my communication skills with the patient, staff nurses, and my colleagues. I have practiced my basic nursing care, showering and sponging the patient, the transferring techniques properly and I learn about the equipment and their usage. I also performed some tasks like NGT feeding and BGM. Show less
