I joined the Board in June 2012 as a Non-exec. Director and subsequently became aware of a number of emerging issues. These led to a profit’s warning and departure of the CEO. The Chairman and the Board asked me to take on the role of CEO. A very intense period followed with the deployment of a significant turnaround plan whilst engaging with our Shareholders to ensure they were fully aware of the challenges and action we were taking. This led to a significant increase in the share price nearly doubling from the low of the profit’s warning. We then entered into discussions with Costain PLC with regard to an agreed merger. On the day of this announcement we received a counter offer from Keir PLC. The transaction was competed in July2013. The premium to the share price low was nearly 3.5 times and an all time high for the May Gurney share price. Show less

A leader in the emerging “green” agenda market, and a significant contributor to carbon reduction. Setting the agenda to deliver improvements in energy efficiency across the residential and commercial sectors. Eaga was originally floated in 2007. Recruited as COO by the Board, to drive the strategic agenda, create operational effectiveness and develop the platform for the movement into the domestic “green energy sector.” This included the agreement to take over as CEO in 2010-11, following the launch into the green sector. • Producing the strategic plan for the group, including the plan to become a leader in the green sector. • Created the operational disciplines and structures to operate as a mature PLC whilst preparing the business for launch into the green sector. • Successfully launched into the green sector in 2010, quickly establishing a leading position and front runner status. Securing £300 million fund for Solar PV, the largest in the UK. Following the successful launch into the green sector, Eaga became a takeover target for companies looking to quickly diversify into the sector. This culminated in the successful takeover bid from Carillion, with a significant offer at twice the share price. On completion of the transaction, the Eaga Board, left the business on amicable terms and Eaga became Carillion Energy Services Division. Show less
