I had the pleasure of working with Will while he was on two Pharm.D. rotations at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. I was a PGY-1 pharmacy resident at the time, and Will was among the first students I precepted on ambulatory care and internal medicine rotations. Will truly set the bar high for what should be expected of students on experiential rotations. He was punctual, intelligent, attentive, respectful, and curious - in my mind, all necessary qualities for a successful pharmacy career. He willingly took on the challenge of completing a quality assurance project for the pharmacy's clinical coordinator in addition to seeing patients in the ambulatory care clinics and rounding independently with an internal medicine team. He excelled clinically in both rotations, and he also presented journal clubs and case presentations with the ease of someone much more senior. I was pleased that, upon graduating from the University of Toledo with his Pharm.D., Will accepted a position in the inpatient pharmacy of the same VA at which he trained. I gave him a recommendation for that job and would gladly recommend him again without hesitation. I can honestly say that Will Burger is the kind of pharmacist I would want my own family members to encounter and trust.
