I have known Gen Bender for 15 years. I worked for him on two occasions during my tenure in the Air Force, when he was the Operations Group Commander at Charleston AFB SC and again when he was the Wing Commander at Ramstein AB Germany. He was a mentor to me during my Air Force career and I am proud to say our relationship has continued after I retired and started my second career. Gen Bender is a phenomenal leader, one who truly cares about the people that work for him and the endeavors they pursue. You won't hear a catchy mnemonic or see a point paper from Gen Bender on leadership because he knows it is much more than that. What you will get is an example grounded in the principles of hard work, dedication, and empathy. The fact that Gen Bender has led flying operations, expeditionary ground operations, civil-military relations, and been the Air Force CIO is evidence that his leadership abilities and expertise transcend any one domain. He is a visionary and team builder, able to process multiple perspectives and map out practical objectives for success. I give Lt Gen Bender my absolute highest recommendation. I would follow him anywhere.

I've had the pleasure of working with Lt. Gen. Bender during his tenure as CIO of the Air Force working several initiatives together. Lt. Gen. Bender is a perceptive listener and leans in to identifying and solving problems. Lt. Gen Bender takes a highly strategic approach in planning goals impacting growth for the next 10+ years in an organization. I have seen incredible endurance (where most people would give up) in his ability to achieve major milestones by bringing people together across multiple organizations in ways never done before. His direct team members speak of the privilege it is to work for him and most impressively, private IT industry leaders across multiple companies say how much they appreciate working with Lt. Gen. Bender noting his authentic humanness and strong leadership in getting things done! Lt. Gen. Bender is a legacy maker.
