During my internship I explored whether probiotics could reduce elevated endocannabinoids in the gut. Endocannabinoids are often upregulated in various gastrointestinal disorders such as, obesity and celiac disease. The metabolism of endocannabinoids by gut bacteria could potentially result in a reduction of the symptoms of patients with gastrointestinal disorders. My research project involved exploring correlation of molecular markers with glioma tumour growth and invasion. During this project, I have learned many techniques while at the laboratory. These include Western Blot, qPCR, Sphere Migration Assay, Immunohistochemistry staining, drug screenings and maintaining in vitro cell cultures. Furthermore, I have gained experience keeping detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures and I have learned how to effectively communicate my analysis of experimental outcomes. My internship abroad has taught me how to work independently whilst also improving my proficiency in English. Show less
