My research is concerned with the development of a system that utilizes a stereo camera sensor and knowledge of orbit dynamics to estimate the pose of unknown objects in space for close proximity operations. This includes in-orbit satellite servicing, docking and space debris removal. Space debris poses a serious threat to space missions and removal is critical to the sustain the viability of earth’s orbits. My research uses machine vision, applied mathematics and recursive Bayesian estimators.

Final year engineering project title: Development of a Pick-And-Place Robot Designing, building and automation control of a pick-and-place robot. This involved mechanical design for manufacture and assembly, electronic circuit board design and embedded programming, implementation of machine vision and development of a user interface. The robot spelled words using small blocks with letters on them. The intended purpose of this robot is for use at open days and educational visits to the engineering faculty. I passed the project with a cum laude and received a reward for this project for the best use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) in a final year project.
