I worked with Will for more than a year in the core engineering team at Traackr. I witnessed first hand his talents, work ethic and constant passion for finding creative and innovative solutions to solve problems. Will is the kind that seeks to better the very foundation of an engineering organization while paying close attention to the business impact it has. Seeing him go to work under tight deadlines while pressured by daunting product requirements without compromising high-quality results, was nothing short of inspirational. Truly without his leadership, the realization of key product milestones would not have been possible under those circumstances. One other thing that struck me in Will is his generosity. He can be an excellent mentor and guide to juniors and always makes time to lend an extra hand. I consider myself very lucky to have crossed paths with Will and would welcome any opportunity to work with him again without hesitation.

It was a pleasure getting to know and learn from Will during my time at Mitrend. In my role as a QA Engineer, I have learned many valuable lessons from working with him. As a recent college graduate, I found it very helpful to learn from his extensive knowledge of Java. In Will, I saw a model of someone who is able to quickly pick up concepts and procedures in the technical field. He was never too busy to lend an ear and took the time to walk me through the projects he worked on, explain the logic behind the code, and answer my questions about the functionality of the product. Will solved problems quickly. Above all, he has both a powerful work ethic and a willingness to learn, making him a valuable member of any team. I hope to have the opportunity to work with Will again.

Working on all backend systems that power Traackr, an Influencer Management platform. Data is collected from blogs, facebook, twitter, youtube and more then packaged into an Elasticsearch engine and made available with a custom API. Data is stored in MongoDB before being indexed in Elasticsearch. All of this deployed to AWS hosted virtual machines and coordinated with custom boto3 and ansible scripts. Currently leading a group of developers working on external tools used by customers to collect data used by our online reporting system. This is in addition to my individual contributor work below. I work on all aspects of back-end data processing for the MiTrend analytics platform which utilizes a Java based distributed cloud architecture (running on AWS). Some of the major initiatives I have driven include adding a clustering layer using Hazelcast which augments the existing database driven clustering, a dynamic input reoganization layer for validating and repackaging user input data. I am also leading the development of a C++ based application for analyzing and gathering data on client desktops and servers for reporting. This application allows raw disk reads or file based reads depending on whether metrics are gathered for block level analysis or file level metadata. Show less

Systems developer on the IBM Netezza Pure Data Analytics Warehouse Appliance. There are few parts of the system that I haven't contributed to, from 3rd party connectivity drivers to the lowest level of disk driver init scripts. Some responsibilities over the past few years include * Contributed communications optimizations for front end scalability and multi-node workload management for load components. Reduced allocations by custom COMM code by 70%. * Configured and brought up proof of concept hardware (Linux host and connected node systems) running IBM Netezza software for future development projects. * Added additional smoke tests to exercise the full-stack of new development work. Previously there were isolated tests for individual components but the APIs between those components were fragile. * Developed interactive debugger for Netezza's internal distributed SQL execution language. * Quickly created a weekly RPM upgrade process for managing packages on the Netezza platform using standard Linux tools and cron scripts to build custom drivers when needed and distribute them to QA then push to a production YUM server.
