      I was responsible for the investigation and case management of Fitness to Practise referrals received by the NMC.The role required proficiency across a spectrum of legal skills in order to thoroughly investigate allegations of misconduct, lack of competence and impairment by reason of ill-health: Document review: - Reviewing evidence bundles; organising, redacting and analysing documentary evidence. Removing duplicate evidence and creating coherent, bookmarked and tagged evidence bundles. - Assessing sufficiency of evidence for each regulatory concern identified; itemising necessary outstanding evidence for proof on the balance of probabilities. - Identifying mitigating contextual and cultural issues; requesting further relevant evidence. Witness interview: - Drafting detailed interview plans; distributing exhibit bundles to witnesses prior to interview. - Witness vulnerability; evaluating the proportionality of requesting testamentary evidence from vulnerable witnesses and ensuring adequate support is made available. - Guiding witnesses with varying expertise and experience through interview, eliciting clear responses that meet the NMC’s evidential standards; taking comprehensive notes and seeking clarification as necessary. - Drafting clear, detailed, hearing-ready statements; sending statements with appended exhibits to the witness for review and approval. - Drafting, case preparation and recommendation: - Drafting comprehensive case investigation reports: Summarising available evidence, referencing relevant documentary and testamentary evidence; Detailing any weaknesses or absences in evidence adduced; Setting out any mitigating and aggravating factors. - Providing recommendations on the necessity of further regulatory action for each regulatory concern identified; signposting all relevant evidence, case law and internal NMC guidance. - Providing support to the Case Preparation Team and internal counsel for cases proceeding to Fitness to Practise hearings.
