On leaving university I was offered a number of investment opportunities for my individual project. I made the decision to partner with James Johnson-Flint the founder of Audio Partnership, which own such audio brands as Cambridge Audio, Mordant Short and Gale. For the past three years I have worked on developing the product for manufacture. I have helped to gain a patent and spent a large amount of time in China, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I was working with our final assembly factory and all the subcontractors. Now the product is in the process of getting medical status and we have also been working with a number of arthritis charities. I was recently asked to speak about getting a product to market at Arthritis Research UK’s “Market Place” event.

During my industrial placement year, four peers and I set up a unique design company. We were situated in UWE Ventures office (business incubator), Bristol. We received business advice and a design mentor. We developed a range of projects ranging from branding and service design, to a sports product for manufacture, as well as gaining valuable industry experience. Primarily at PinkLime we all worked together as a team, but I often found myself taking the lead role, which was very rewarding and I enjoyed the added responsibility. We still do the occasional freelance projects, mainly for start up clients.
