I provide general practical academic support and behavioural management to statemented SEN students with EHCP's. These requirements may be either in-classroom, or through withdrawal, with an active view to support these individuals or groups of students and aiding them in accessing the school connected curriculum through timetabled learning, self directed learning (SDL) and interventions. I help and mentor all students in identifying and releasing their potential, including those without EHCP's by overcoming barriers to learning, both inside and outside of the academy.

I float between homes, providing high quality support to children aged 10-17 within a supported living environment who’re from disadvantaged backgrounds and face a range of special needs such as ASD and Asperger’s syndrome. The support homes hold from 2-6 children each.I work alongside other support workers to implement all young person’s academic timetables, activity and dietary planners to ensure an effective schedule is adhered to.I plan interactive activities involving my assigned key clients for each shift and put in place any due rewards for achievements and sanctions for misconduct.I log critical and sensitive information regarding day-to-day compliance checks, a chronology of daily events for each child, incident reports such as details on any client that has absconded beyond their set curfew, communicating issues to the local authority and police. I also administer prescribed medication and record full details of the dose ingested. I mediate house meetings and take minutes of all matters that are raised by the young residents. I attend staff meetings and engage with my team on matters affecting the home including any relevant changes that are being put in place and how best to adapt to them.

I was mainly responsible for assisting young people with ADHD, ASD, SEBD and Asperger's Syndrome as well as children who had difficulties using language to reason, discuss and explain.I worked closely with teaching staff and speech and Language Therapists in assessing and supporting the children based on their unique educational, social and emotional needs by providing guidance during their personally tailored timetabled lessons, sessions and leisure time. Activities varied from day to day according to age group, need and timetable.

Following all safeguarding policies and procedures to support in a class of 8 children aged 14-16 with SEN MLD. I aided in tailored lesson plans according to their individual needs. Their needs ranged from autism, ADHD, epilepsy, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia. I engaged them in lego-therapy and sensory sessions. Applying PECS, TEAACH and Communication in Print processes I was able to help the children complete work to a progressive standard and provide guidance in manoeuvring around the school and in their day-to-day life. I was able to actively learn and use Makaton as a means to make communication easier for the less verbal. I also liaised with parents and carers using the children’s day books, making logs of activities partaken in during the course of the day.

I supported secondary school students of all ages, many of whom were from disadvantage backgrounds and had been removed from mainstream schools. I enthusiastically inspirited them with their personally tailored timetables and empowered them in making positive decisions. Class sizes ranged from 2-10 and it was common for me to be split between 2 groups to give detailed explanations on how to take on any set work. I worked with children with ASD, ADHD and SEBD, managing conflict and challenging behaviour which involved putting in sanctions and rewards for behaviour displayed in and around the school.

I worked mainly on a one-to-one basis with a girl with SEBD needs. I also supported all the students within the class of 12 that she was in. The class was a mixture of key stage 3 and 4 students with varying needs including SEBD, communication needs, ASD and ADHD. I was flexible in applying initiative and covering in classes where needed, within a variety of situations where students were extremely challenging and disengaged. I was committed, aware, adaptable and energetic while working with extremely vulnerable children. This allowed for me to gain thicker skin as many of the children were abusive due to their varying conditions. I built a rapport with and encouraged positive relationships between the young people. I was able to develop effective communication skills and gain in-depth understanding of the importance of team working skills and enhancing them through communicating with colleagues including the inclusion team and with families of the children for effective for effective academic and social progression, along with behavioural management strategies.

I worked within a team in a supported living environment of 8 young adults aged 18-35 from all walks of life who face many challenges due to mental health and learning disabilities. My role involved understanding and empathising with the residents and their relatives, even when it appeared that their problems may have been self-inflicted. I offered emotional support such as listening and guidance, as well as practical support and knowing when the right type of support was needed according to each resident’s individual needs. I orchestrated key-work sessions with residents on a one-to-one basis in order to achieve their Person Centred Plan of care (PCP). I observed and contributed to and produced reports and case studies with colleagues and other healthcare professionals. I attended and contributed to staff and resident meetings concerning ways in which we could make improvements to the service. I took minutes at meetings and monitored the running of office equipment. I ensured all filing was confidentially filed and available to access safely.I encouraged the independence of the residents and helped them to release their inner potential and hidden talents. I rose to challenges by encouraging and creating hope for the residents in the service. I attended training sessions and completed all relevant e-learning.

I assisted people aged 16+ of mixed abilities and younger people on vocational courses with interview techniques and CV development. I delivered engaging workshops and advised them on gaining information regarding their personal health and development. I got feedback from questionnaires they’d fill out after each workshop, using it to improve each time. I helped orchestrated positive relationships with young people by providing a confidential ear, often standing in the gap as a mediator in disputes. I provided course and attendance information ensuring that students were where they needed to be at the correct times and were on track with their work schedules. I embraced the diverse range of ethnicities within the college through various celebrations of cultural arts and cuisine. I was successful in supplying the tools for young people to follow their career paths through various mentoring practices.
