Experience

    • RN
      • Apr 2013 - Present

      • Work at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center, 350 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85013 as a travel nurse with my primary assignment on Tower 5 a medical/surgical telemetry, but I have floated to other Telemetry floors (Tower 4 and 6) in the facility as well. The position requires a general knowledge of all adult patient care, with multi-tasking ability dealing with multi disciplines and many MD groups due to St. Joseph being a teaching hospital. Patient turnover is very fast with admitting and discharging a patient within 2 hrs. of an admission. Travel assignments require quick thinking, learning, and utilizing resources to be able to function after only 2 days of orientation. From April to May I had to learn 2 different computer programs for charting since I was hired during a complete computer and program conversion between Meditech and Cerner. Cerner was at St. Mary’s but the computer user options each facility decides on can be very different.

    • Advanced Registered Nurse
      • Mar 2008 - Mar 2013

•Performing Nuclear Medicine Stress Chemical Stress Tests, as the only direct hire nurse for the department. It is a 32 hour a week position. •Within budget, manage all nursing aspects and coverage of department, training, and staffing of the daily nurse the unit utilizes to perform diagnostic tests on both inpatient and outpatient populations. Interested nurses are pulled from other cardiac areas to train specifically for cardiac stress tests without having to hire additional employees.•Work directly with the Nuclear Doctors, Cardiologists, cardiology nurse practitioners, inpatient pharmacy, and hospital administration (compliance and regulation committee) to update/ adjust old protocols for chemical (medication) cardiac stress agents such as Persantine to include new information and documented guidelines used to perform the diagnostic tests within safe guidelines and best practice standards using evidence based data.•Created a new protocol for a new medication used for the chemical stress test called Lexiscan which also included data provided from the pharmaceutical representative. This position has required flexibility and 100% reliability especially since there is only one RN scheduled each day. The position requires a strong self-directed nurse that can handle alone any situation or emergency that can arise. I feel comfortable as an independent, self-starter, and problem solver who can operate under circumstances where many nurses don't feel comfortable. Even on the heaviest scheduled days where the patient list seems impossible to complete, I keep going until the last patient has been seen, tests are complete, and documents processed. Creative problem solving under very limited resources, strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and knowledge or where to resource has been a job requirement. I have enjoyed immensely working with patients and collaborating with other disciplines in this type of diagnostic procedural setting.
