The mission of the Intercultural Music Initiative (IMI) is to perform and highlight music by African American and other African-descent composers from continental Africa, the Caribbean and other regions of the African Diaspora. All IMI concerts and artist residency programs ALWAYS include familiar standard repertoire from pre-Baroque through contemporary music literature. IMI Residency programs are designed for colleges and universities across the United States that desire to offer courses and programs that stimulate interest and academic inquiry into new musical genres by African American and other African-descent composers.
