Four year apprenticeship (9000 hrs,reduced 1000hrs if School Certificate was passed) under the New Zealand Public Service. New Zealand Trade Certificate in Boilermaking / Welding achieved 1990 Trained in hot and cold working of various metals ( Steel & Aluminium) and various forms of heat treatment. Welding / Soldering /Brazing of various metals ( Aluminium-MIG& TIG, Brass ,Copper,Steel, Cast Iron , Stainless Steel). Hot and cold riveting. Press forming, lofting of drawings , Materials handling and identification, Ship survey and NDT testing ( Dye and Mag particle, load and pressure testing,and a the faithful hit it with a hammer and listen to the sound) , Project liaison with ship staff (From sailor to Navy Commanders) and various trades. Project planning for machinery removal and reestablishment. One off,design as you go items, emergency jury rig repairs to get ships to sea ( Some of which were never replaced). Installation of equipment with electricians ,Plumbers,Ship fitters ,Shipwrights ,Sheetmetal workers. General fabrication and repair of structures. Vessel refits. Boiler refractory repair and replacement.Boiler tube repair or replacement. Confined space training. Working at heights and hazardous environments. Gantry Crane operating certificate by pendant or cab control ( 5 and 20 tonne capacity). General rigging and slinging of various items and materials. Safety requirements of an industrial site and general hazards. Forkhoist Endorsement to drivers license . Metals protection and electrolysis/ Galvanic action. The "go to" for fiddly one of rebuilds / re manufacture of items. Show less
