During my years placement at JLG I worked within 3 departments at the Design and Development Centre for telehandlers. My time in each department is detailed below: Product Support Engineering • Understood, completed and submitted Change Notice requests for engineering drawing changes. • Redesigned and issued brackets for Roadrunner Cab Work lights to address interference with screen guards. • Resolved Roadrunner Supplier Change Requests correcting hose, bracket and hood issues. • Validated and investigated engineering change notices by visiting the manufacturing facility in Maasmachlen, Belgium and to view B-Class prototype and current product production. Test and Development Engineering • Functional rework and fixing of B-Class Prototype machines, which passed all subsequent testing. • Instrumentated CAT/JLG 3006 and 4008 telehandlers for cooling tests, and completed testing by operating the machines in the climatic chambers at Millbrook and MIRA. • Carried out EWR’s which included stability, hydraulic, cooling and durability testing with confident use of instrumentation, Somat equipment and TCE software. • Trouble shooting and investigation of issues with functionality of instrumentation to include PCMs and flowmeters. Computer Aided Engineering and Finite Element Analysis • Data collection and post processing of strain gauge data from On Vehicle Structural Analysis (OVSA) test work including deadman, static and dynamic telehandler operations with fatigue analysis to BS 7608. • Basic hand calculations pre FEA analysis to have a basic understanding of the design issue. • Meshing of modelled components in Altair Hyperworks involving constraining, solving and analysing the results. • Processing of test data using HBM nCode Glyphworks and DesignLife for Fatigue and Stress analysis. • Analysis and investigation into the design, development and test of an instrumented pry post for OVSA test work.
