TechRafiki is a Ugandan-based tech-media house that produces content focusing on Africa’s tech eco-system ranging from tech innovations, tech-product reviews, tech start-ups, fintech among others. Within her first year of operation, the tech site recorded 300k views, about 90k visitors. At a certain point in 2021, we were ranked among the top 180k websites in the world and top 150 websites in Uganda by Alexa. The media start-up is has paused its operations and is currently undergoing a rebranding with the help of its new partner - MRK WP. As a founder and Team-lead, I offer guidance and support to the entire team. I set a strategy and direction, make important managerial and operational decisions on behalf of the team. On top of this, I continue to search and pitch our idea to potential investors and partners in the media industry and also take part in various startup programs. With my web-development skills, I designed our website and ensured it is well optimized for both speed and Search engines (SEO). The site registers above 1000 daily views from 300 visitors. Through one of her initiatives to improve the skills of developers in the country, Laboremus co-founded one of the best tech skilling programs in the country- Refactory. During my apprenticeship with Laboremus, we (a group of 4 participants) were tasked with designing and implementing a feedback collection and response system (StreamComm) for one of Laboremus’ software products (Streamline) which is used by commercial banks in the accounts opening process. I mainly played the role of both a database designer and backend developer during this project developing the various APIs that the application used.
