Susan Conover
I worked with Eric in the MIT System Design and Management (SDM) program both in group projects and to co-lead the SDM Speaker Series. Eric is one of the most creative, ambitious, and hard-working people I know. He takes a hypothesis-driven approach to tackling problems, seeing challenges as opportunities for improvement. I recommend working with Eric as he adds a dimension to teams that is critical to keep moving forward and stay focused on a bigger mission.

At Odyne, we are passionate about seeing humanity become a space-faring society. But there are many steps along the way, and in order to become truly space-faring, we need reasons to go to space. Odyne aims to support and build the off-earth economy by giving clever, motivated entrepreneurs ways to quickly execute their business plans on orbit, by providing micro-launch as a service. We will be the infrastructure of the new space economy. At Odyne, we are passionate about seeing humanity become a space-faring society. Work with clients to take ideas and curate them into viable products and product improvements: ● Assisted multiple clients with specifications definition in order to help them quantify their requirements and to insure my ability to deliver a product that meets their needs. ● Created the preliminary mechanical design for a combined biosensor/drug delivery catheter in order to support grant applications and early core technology testing. Generate design and development plans for funding and planning purposes: ● Assisted with a grant application by developing a mechanical design and prototyping plan to deliver functional devices for animal testing. Design and Develop Mechanical products: ● Applied engineering theory to design a break-away wrist-band pin for a Parkinson's monitoring watch that reduces the risk of injury by failing at a safe load. Support manufacturing process design and improvements: ● Designed and manufactured a PCB testing machine to automate 100% incoming inspection of precision electronics for an attention testing device. -Designed a miniaturized automated sensor insertion mechanism for wire-based biosensor delivery into the subcutaneous tissue of humans (requiring expertise in materials science, electrical contacts and mechanical systems.) This project required the application of plastic and metal mechanism design, Design-for-Manufacturing and assembly techniques, and extensive utilization of creative problem solving. My work on this project led to an award entitled “Outstanding Achievement in Science and Technology” from Bayer Diabetes Care. Only 15 employees of the entire Bayer Diabetes staff were given this award. -Managed the supply chain by coordinating design efforts for the sensor’s mechanical support system. Worked directly with vendors to solve design and manufacturing challenges and spearheaded tooling validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) to ensure a robust and manufacturable product. -Lead an FMEA and a design review to compare product design with input requirements and to identify design risks. Took the generated a list of product improvements and prioritized based on schedule and cost. -Developed mechanical automated system for coating enzymes and polymers on to wire-based biosensors (expertise in electro-mechanical and pneumatic actuation, computer programming of the closed-loop control system and GMP standards) which became the primary method of enzyme coating for the sensor. -Participated with budgetary planning for both product supply and corporate capital and expense spending. -Familiarity with human medical regulatory environment: Performed engineering duties (design, verification, process control, and failure modes and effects analysis) in an FDA-regulated environment with special attention to quality and document control.
