  A work with a team of specialists that focus on reclaiming abandoned strip coal mines in Iowa. These mines were mined prior to 1977. The team I work with administers a federal grant program authorized by SMCRA. A large part of my job involves reviewing consultants' designs as well as developing reclamation designs for several smaller mine sites to which I am assigned.
