Responsible for the conduct of security reviews and vulnerability assessments of information technology systems, including standards based security policy and procedure reviews, network architecture design reviews, vulnerability assessments (VAs), penetration tests, and hands-on analysis of system configurations. Responsible for administering the networking infrastructure of three provincial government departments. This infrastructure was a multi-platform environment, including Novell, NT – Windows 2000, Winframe, DEC Alpha, SCO-Unix, X-terminals, and Oracle database application servers. Hardware was a mix of switched and unswitched 100Mb Ethernet and Token Ring supporting a mixed IPX - IP WAN environment.As senior LAN Administrator I took a leadership role in planning short and long term goals for the IT division. In particular I was responsible for ensuring that effective security policies were in place for the protection of all systems under our control. This included the regular review of security policy and overseeing the implementation of those policies.I was a member of a five person Network Security Committee under the direction of the Information Technology Management Division of Treasury Board. This included code modification and management of data transfer operations. Member of a four person committee which was set up in early 1994 to determine the technical requirements for connecting the provincial government’s WAN in the St. John’s area to the Internet. I was responsible for the acquisition and configuration of all software necessary to achieve this. This included configuring the TCP-IP protocol stacks on workstations and routers, finding the most efficient way of allocating our limited IP address space and installation and configuration of a Domain Name Server and SMTP Gateway.
