Offshore wind source is of particular interest since it is more abundant and constant due to the absence of topographic influence, making more productive… Show more The project is conducted in cooperation with National School Arts And Crafts (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers - ENSAM). It is a part of the project ,,Intelligent Integrated Energy Converter'' (Convertisseur d’Energie Intégré Intelligent CE2I). Wind energy is regarded as one of the most promising renewable energy sources. Offshore wind source is of particular interest since it is more abundant and constant due to the absence of topographic influence, making more productive wind farms possible. An innovative architecture and control of offshore wind farms is studied in the project. Wind turbines are connected in series, and several such clusters are then connected in parallel. By doing so, we can increase wind farm voltage for HVDC transmission without the use of offshore converter station. My main objective is to develop experimental test bench for testing different control strategies for such architecture of wind turbines. Control is performed by power electronic devices: - Voltage Source Converter (VSC) - Modular Multi - level Converter (MMC) At first, the experimental platform has to be well designed, and pre-checked in Simulink simulations. Then, my task is to detect the elements needed for building the test bench and buy the elements. The experiments will be done in the laboratory of ENSAM. They include the use of: - Matlab/ Simulink for the design of the system and its control - dSPACE and Control Desk for communication between the control and the real system - EMTP for transient period analysis in DC cables - LabVIEW for the control of power supply, with the use of local SCADA system The final goal is to prove that MMC-HVDC transmission of offshore wind energy is feasible solution in terms of system control, and to show its advantage in pursuing Maximal Power Point Tracking (MPPT).
