I had the great pleasure of collaborating with Dey Barriga in her capacity as the Director of Global Engagement at Rivier University over the last several years. Dey is a savvy and strategic partnership and relationship builder, having held various roles at Rivier University. She knows the institution inside and out and has built relationships with all of the key stakeholders during her tenure there. I am struck by the depth and breadth of the relationships that she has been able to cultivate on campus with her students, the faculty, external partners, administrators, and SIOs. It is through these relationships that she is able to continue to innovate and internationalize Rivier University. In working with Dey, we got to know each other well and worked closely together. There are many of her qualities that I greatly appreciate, but the one that really stands out to me is her ability to think strategically about how to expand international initiatives at Rivier University. In the case of study abroad, she did so by targeting underrepresented majors (nursing, biology, etc.) and by expanding faculty-led programs offered by this institution. I was amazed by her ability to market and promote study abroad programs by having a re-entry session with all of the alumni speak about their experiences overseas to over 50 prospective students and faculty members. This is not an easy feat to drum up such interest for a re-entry session and yet Dey was able to coordinate and put together a fantastic event. Dey is adept at her ability to lead, mentor and teach her team about advising both domestic and international students. Dey is a dynamo, plain and simple, with many ideas, a capability to innovate, visionary thinking, and a knack for expanding international initiatives. These and other skills that Dey possesses are not only useful for higher education, but are highly transferable to a variety of other industries. I greatly appreciate Dey as a professional as she is always striving to create, improve, and build upon already existing programs/initiatives. She is also very efficient and committed to timely customer service to her students, partners, and colleagues, and has great energy, enthusiasm, creativity and a phenomenal sense of humor. Finally, her care of her students both on campus and abroad is unparalleled, and Dey is absolutely committed to transforming a student's life and to cultivating the awareness of cultural integration. Dey really is the best of the best, and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to collaborate with her so closely on many programs.

I have known Ms. Dey Barriga for five years. She has been so inspiring and supportive for not only me but also for millions of students and people who got lucky enough to have interactions with her. We have had an instant connection since my first day at Rivier University. I honestly admire her passion to advocate international students. She goes out of her way to help students. I got the opportunity to know her closely when I started working at the Office of Global Engagement. She believes in me, pushes me, motivates me and to such an extent that I started to believe in myself. She carries such a positive aura around her that whoever comes in her contact can feel that! She is the true example of professionalism combined with kindness. She is the definition of "Guru" in every aspect let it be leadership, marketing, communications, student affairs, F1 regulations, mentoring, event planning and so on. She is a gem. Her ability to connect with people is unlike any I've seen before in my life. It amazes me how she could wear so many hats and still remain so pure and genuine. As a professional she earns the highest recommendations.
