Mary Miller

I had the opportunity to work with Vladimir for two years as a colleague. During the second year, my role changed to program management, where I more closely worked with Vladimir and his technical team. Vladimir was very instrumental in my effective start in my new role. He immediately and proactively engaged me in collaborative problem solving, to ‘right-size’ the technical team’s plans to new organizational resource levels. I quickly learned that Vladimir is a natural teacher – he patiently explained complex concepts on the underlying technology that we were using in a way that was easy for me to understand as a non-technical person. As a technical team leader, Vladimir formed a talented team that achieved target product functionality goals despite challenging technical barriers, very limited resources, and in a setting that required collaboration with external partners and frequent adaptation. Although Vladimir is highly accomplished technically and very analytically disciplined, he demonstrated a remarkable openness to the feedback and ideas of others. He is certainly a person who listens for insights that could potentially raise his personal level of performance, and the performance of his team.

I worked alongside Vladimir for 7 years at Alexza. He headed up the electrical engineering team while I led the chemistry team within the product development organization, so we worked together pretty closely. From the technical standpoint, Vladimir is an excellent electrical engineer. He was very knowledgeable about both hardware and software design. Vladimir has a lot of experience with medical device requirements, i.e, design controls, failure mode analyses, etc. He was quite versatile, showing a strong grasp of mechanical and chemistry requirements and attributes as well. Vladimir was always helpful when problems crept up - helping me with anti-static problems, understanding IEC standards, suggesting equivalent electronic components, designing triggering circuits, etc. From a managerial perspective, he supervised a number of electrical and software engineers during his time at Alexza. His group respected his leadership and they had a good relationship with Vladimir. Vladimir set high expectations for his group, and they delivered. Vladimir is a very intelligent, dependable person whom I would like to work with again in the future.
