The objective for working independently during this period was to reflect on what was learned and mastered until that point and to improve upon existing skills through practice and freelance work, but more importantly to secure sufficient time for bridging the gap to test automation and software development, tackling OOP and it’s use in both development and test. Also, getting a better overall sense of latest software development approaches and why the consumer market demands them proved as an invaluable experience during a short 3-month internship in one of the leading game development companies in Asia.

Quality Assurance Engineer

Jan 2018 - Mar 2018
The main responsibilities of my position were fully focused on quality assurance and software testing. My time on projects varied drastically during the week, sometimes covering as much as five projects in different lifestyle phases simultaneously. The projects, beside that, also greatly varied in the internal development team organization, technologies used, platforms supported, as well as the overall difference in the software categories. Beside strengthening testing, test case writing and API manipulation skills, I gained a lot of time management, exploratory testing and platform-specific testing and analysis skills, such as for Google Chromecast testing, Apple TV, Apple Watch testing etc. When it comes to agile testing, I extended my expertise in the area of user stories and acceptance criteria, working according to scrum principles and organization, as well as with minor agile testing product ownership skills.

Dec 2016 - Jan 2018
As a quality assurance engineer in a small scrum team, my daily responsibilities were divided into first line support, agile testing and Quality Assurance and business analysis duties, as well as some project management ones. The most important skills related to product ownership, business analysis and team leadership I managed to achieve were to take change requests and convert them into appropriate tickets in the project backlog, present ticket user stories and acceptance criteria to developers during grooming meetings, monitor their development and provide assistance to the team during the development phase in order to achieve the desired feature goals, build, deploy to server, test the implemented changes during each sprint, report and present during sprint review and retrospective sessions. The testing skills I perfected are agile testing, sprint testing, migration testing, regression testing, UAT with clients on-site, API test automation in SoapUI, load testing and result analysis and reporing. Beside performing black box testing, on certain occasions I performed white/grey box tests. On the client relations side, I was tasked on maintaining a healthy and trusting relationship with all the clients and especially their IT and support teams, but also with their sales teams when it came to sensitive change requests labeled with a high business impact value.

As a member of the Data Collection and Labeling team, my primary objective was to gather relevant data for ongoing projects in the Microsoft Office division, which I was a part of. Later on and during most of my employment, inside the Office Sway Quality Assurance team, it was my responsibility to carry out manual tests of both the web-based and mobile native applications on multiple platforms and devices.
