Botree may be new but it gave me the space and freedom to play with ideas. It also gave me a career boost, as I grew from being a Sr. Visualizer to Art Director. So far, I have had the privilege of working for world famous brands like KEUCO and established companies like WS Developers and Tasty Khana. And I hope to work for many more… Botree may be new but it gave me the space and freedom to play with ideas. It also gave me a career boost, as I grew from being a Sr. Visualizer to Art Director. I may not have learnt much in terms of skills at IKF. However, I changed my perception about things around me. I actually started viewing everything around me as a medium and tool. When a visual starts taking shape in your mind, it’s not the tool you choose that makes a mark. It’s the execution and the level of involvement that does the trick. If paints don’t work, try charcoal…If coral does not excite, try actual paper collage…If not the rotering pen, try your hand at pencil…There are plenty of options and avenues. And art cannot be restricted by tools and software. It can be limited only by your imagination. My most notable work at IKF was for our client – IYC (Indian Youth Congress). Not for my visuals, but for the Hindi poem I wrote for them. I think it will be a major milestone in my career.

Who doesn’t like the smell of money? At least I do, and hence it took me just a few seconds to say ‘YES’ to a high-paying job (so I thought) at the famous Cognizant as a Visual Designer. I enjoyed working there for a while with frequent perks, generous Offs, parties and five-day week culture pampering me and clients like eBay cajoling me to stay there forever. But this was not what I was meant to do, as the artist in me wanted to explore and go beyond the limited realms of the IT art. Having reached the crossroads in my career, I made a choice – to satiate the artist in me no matter where he took me.

During my tenure at Maroon Island, I had the privilege of knowing art in its varied forms. It was here that I learnt how the simple interplay of colors and the effect of different strokes can give a whole new meaning to inanimate objects. I had the privilege of working for mega brands like House of Laptops and Nuplus Kitchen. From the very beginning, I had discovered one thing about myself – I was not meant to be just a visualizer. Insipid ideas handed over by Creative (?) Directors were not my cup of tea. Ideation had become my strength; something that I had realized long back and my faith was further fortified by the positive comments I got from my clients. Every time I got a brief, ideas came rushing like a mad whirlwind. I enjoyed working most on my concept ‘History of Laptops’ wherein the evolution of laptops was mapped through various newspaper cuttings belonging to that era.
