Contributions: Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) is a biomarker for assessing Vitamin B12 deficiency and inherited disorder Methylmalonic acidemia. However, some recent studies indicate that it is not limited to these two clinical conditions and showed the significance of MMA measurements in an acquired methyl malonyl CoA mutase deficiency, mechanisms of increased MMA, and its role in aging and tumor progression. See below for the AACC Scientific Shorts article written by me and the other AACC Nutrition Division leadership. https://www.aacc.org/science-and-research/scientific-shorts/2023/evolving-roles-and-clinical-utility-of-methylmalonic-acid-mma Show less
