During the course of my teaching career, I have taught subjects such as Basics of Mechanical Engineering, Design of Machine Elements, Engineering Graphics, Mechanics of Solids, Gas Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. During the earlier stages, my lecturing was mainly through “chalk and talk” means. Though, this was an effective method of teaching, it was time consuming due to which I had to take up extra hours to finish the portions on time. Subsequently, I started using power point presentations in line with the chalk and board. Important figures, animations and videos related to the course were projected on screen now and then. This helped to strengthen learning and enabled students to better visualize the mechanism. Gradually, I also started making use of prototypes to explain some difficult to learn concepts. I take frequent feedback from students to evaluate their level of understanding and expectations. I have always started off each class session with previous session's material in the form of a quiz, an outline of that day's material, and a reference back to the course objectives in the syllabus. Further, I used to evaluate myself as a teacher and diagnose faults. I used to have interactions with well experienced faculties and get tips from them. All these helped to improve my teaching style. I consistently desire to hone the quality of teaching and to implement an active student centred learning approach. I expect to achieve this by; Making use of online tools like Moodle, Word press, Zoom, Google meet, Google forms etc. Imparting industry oriented knowledge to students. Discussing live case studies which in turn will help students to understand the importance of the concerned course. Implementing peer group learning and solving small research problems suited to student ability. Exploring innovative pedagogies employing both contemporary and frontier technologies. Show less
