The challenge for this project is to consider the alternative techniques for monitoring pilot behaviour, to assess them against the requirements and constraints of the flight deck, to develop a proof-of-concept demonstrator for a chosen approach, and to present the results of the investigation. The proof-of-concept demonstrator were required to be delivered within the constraints of the available hardware which on this case was a set of capacity touch screens, Kinnects and cameras. Ultimately, our aim is to construct and pilot our very own 1920s, single engine, two seater Pietenpol Air Camper aircraft to be piloted by our own licensed student pilot. Throughout the duration of Project Phoenix our teams will develop the technical and business skills required to undertake and succeed in our ambitions. To achieve this, we are working with the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield. We are seeking to emulate and build upon Amy Johnson’s remarkable legacy, upholding the same ambition and values as she did at her time at this University. We are a multi-disciplined, inter-faculty team embarking on what will be the only project of its kind in the UK aiming to showcase our achievements and progress to our followers, the University and companies alike.
