Was the lead student on constructing a LEGO Brewster Angle Microscope. The Brewster Angle Microscope is a microscope used for imaging and studying films on liquid surfaces. Films can be as thing as a few molecules thick. The microscope was used in an upper-division Physical Chemistry course as well as for general imaging and research. For the project I helped draft and construct the microscope, and developed the LabVIEW program to motorize the cameras and lenses, as well as developed a program to parse through images and extract the reflectivity of biofilms. The program included a 2D line-of-focus stacking algorithm and numerical integration. I also instructed Physical Chemistry students in the use of the microscope during their labs. Prior to the instrument students had no way of visualizing the films. The project culminated with a paper published in the American Journal of Physics. Position was paid during Summers and for credit during regular quarters. Show less

10 Week paid Research Experience for under graduates. My day-to-day work consisted of imaging, extracting, and compiling data from liquid crystal films to determine their two-dimensional hydrodynamic properties. I also created and edited Matlab and Python scripts to parse data into graphs to present data to my supervisors. Summary and analysis of data can be found here: 10 Week paid Research Experience for under graduates.
