      Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations can be used to gain further insight into the physicochemical foundations of the interactions between polyoxometalates (POMs) and proteins. With this approach crucial questions about the driving force for the interaction between POMs and proteins can be answered. While few docking studies exploring the binding locations of POMs with proteins have been previously reported, due to the intrinsic limitations of this methodology, little is known about the specific interactions occurring at molecular level. Nevertheless, all these studies proposed interactions with charged amino residues such as Lys or Arg; or other polar residues such as Asn, Glu, Ser, His, Cys, Thr, Clu, Asp or Gln. In addition, preliminary studies on the binding study suggest that there may be a threshold size below which POMs do not exhibit significant activity. The mode of action may depend on charge and size of the anion.
