As an R.A., I balance multiple priorities, manage an event budget, and mediate student conflict. Responding to crises situations as sharpened my ability to think on my feet and act in accordance with liability protocol. As a student-staff leader, I've developed my own unique communication style and learned how to ask open-ended questions which invite more meaningful connections. With my American Red Cross training in First-Aid, CPR, and use of an AED, I efficiently triaged situations on the beach front as they arose. Over the course of my career, I've made seven (7) life-saving water rescues. However, my lifeguarding experience largely involved telling people to stop doing stupid things: instructing adults not to drink alcohol in the water, not to fish in the swimming area, not to play fetch with their dog among bathers, etc. Unsurprisingly, most people were unappreciative of my advice to say the least, so I learned to use a level-headed and non-confrontational manner to head off any opposition.
